And we're off!
Starting small and local, our very first fundraiser is an evening of silliness and suspense.... waiting for a chicken to do the deed! We have brought together one of our small business members with a beautiful small charity to create our first fundraiser. The organisation and all costs of putting on this event are borne by The Fair Society so that every penny raised goes directly to the charity. That's how we work.
Eden Brewery, based in Mittagong NSW, is a craft brewery and distillery producing an exceptional range of award-winning beers, small batch gins and the most incredible flavoured moonshines. They have to be tried to be believed.
C3 Cares is a small charity in Bowral that runs a community cafe right in the middle of the town. They collect food donated from a supermarket and a local private school, amongst other donors, portion it into individual meals and give them to people who are finding it hard to feed themselves and their families. Sadly this demographic is growing exponentially, something the government should be utterly ashamed of. Everyone is welcome in the cafe. There are no prices on anything, instead customers are invited to leave a donation if they can. It's a wonderfully inclusive concept. There are donated pantry items on shelves and in baskets together with a well-stocked fridge for those who need it. Every Friday evening they also run a hugely successful soup kitchen in Moss Vale that has become a much needed opportunity to get together for many people; nourishing both the body and soul.
If you haven't heard of Chicken Shit Bingo, it's exactly what it says on the tin! A large board covered in numbered squares has a chicken wire cage on it. People are invited to buy a ticket for $5 per square - you can buy as many as you like - then the chicken playing the star role is put into the cage, with plenty of tasty treats to keep her interested and wandering about, and when the inevitable happens (apparently about once every 20 minutes) the lucky holder of the correspondingly numbered ticket wins half the pot and the other half goes straight to the charity. We are hoping to play about four rounds so there's plenty of chances to win.
